What We Do
“Tall oaks from little acorns grow.”
Our work is defined by the client’s vision of what they want their life to become.
The inner life and the outer life are both parts of the picture, and we seek to bring both into focus. Our aim is to nurture potential through the use of existing strengths and new resources.
Through a professional and compassionate therapeutic alliance we join with individuals, couples, families, and groups to foster development and support the achievement of meaningful goals.
We are committed to high quality clinical skills, ethical standards, and mutual respect. We value the trust given to us and we prioritize the preservation of that, honoring confidentiality, celebrating diversity, and giving consistent attention to the safety, security and general welfare of all involved.
We learn as much as we teach, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Who is eligible for Outpatient Mental Health Services?
Any child, adolescent, or adult that can benefit from services is eligible. Outpatient Services can be funded by private insurance, Mainecare, Medicaid, or self-paid.
What are your Telehealth Services, how do they work, and does insurance cover them?
Telehealth includes the practice of mental and/or medical health care delivery, diagnosis, consultation, treatment, and education using interactive audio, video, telephone, and messaging formats. Telehealth also involves the exchange of mental and/or medical health data or other clinical information tthrough visual, auditory, and oral communication via computers, electronic devices, or telephone. Use of telehealth is always optional and is used by agreement between provider and client. The risks and benefits of using telehealth is reviewed at the start of services, and the use, format, and goals of telehealth is first established at the start of the provider-client partnership and is typically spelled out in a treatment plan. At Acorn & Oak we have a lot of experience delivering services this way and we are big believers in telehealth use along with traditional modes of service delivery.
What kind of insurance do you accept and what are the costs for your services?
We accept most major insurance plans. We can provide you with claim forms to get reimbursed for out-of-network services as well. Some programs we offer are not fully supported by private insurance companies and are only available with Mainecare or by self-pay. Private insurance is billed first when both this and Mainecare are held by a client. Mainecare eligibility is not only income-based, there are other programs that are not based on income that allow children to qualify for Mainecare. In Maine this program is called the Katie Beckett Program and it is based on disability and the need for care and services, rather than family income. We welcome the opportunity to help you apply for Mainecare if you want to participate in services that are primarily Mainecare funded.
What do you offer for Clinical Supervision, Consultation, Training, and Education Services?
Clinical Supervision refers to the practice of Licensed Clinical Social Workers mentoring other Licensed Social Workers who are working toward the LCSW credential. Clinical Supervision is also the means by which LCSW’s and other independently licensed mental health providers (such as LCPC’s, LMFT’s or others) can develop professionally by using the experience and expertise of a seasoned provider in consultation. Consultation usually refers to a short-term relationship focusing on one case or project. Training and Education refers to one-on-one or group training either as a clinical provider (such as Parent Effectiveness Training for groups of parents) or as a clinical educator (teaching other providers how to successfully use telehealth methods, for example). Currently all of these services are by request, but in the future Acorn & Oak may offer a regular schedule of workshops on popular topics.
What Transportation Assistance do you offer and how does it work?
Private insurance plans sometimes fund transportation to covered services, and Mainecare almost always does. Non-Emergency transportation arrangements are typically done through a state dispatch company, but Acorn & Oak has made arrangements to handle transportation arrangements for clients directly. Transportation Assistance through Mainecare includes reimbursing for public transportation, setting up car rides to and from appointments, arranging financial help for clients to pay for the cost of travel themselves, or arranging for financial help for a friend or family member to drive clients.
